How to choose a solar security camera
These are the four eufy SoloCam solar security cameras with offers in our feed. We compare what eufy's product pages state about onboard storage, pan-and-tilt motion, video resolution, night vision, and solar charging panels because those factors determine whether a camera captures and preserves the footage you need.
Before opening an offer, decide whether a single fixed view satisfies your layout or if you need motorized panning to follow subjects across your yard. In our view, you should also confirm whether local storage is included in the box so you do not have to purchase an extra storage card separately.
Which ones record without a microSD card
eufy's SoloCam S220 page lists 2K resolution, a 135° field of view, 8 GB of built-in storage and a 0.9W integrated solar panel. eufy's SoloCam E42 page lists 4K recording, 355° pan and 55° tilt, 16 GB of built-in storage and a 6,400mAh battery with an included solar panel. eufy's SoloCam S340 page lists a 3K wide-angle lens plus a 2K telephoto lens, 8 GB of built-in storage and an adjustable 2.2W solar panel. These three models record and store video out of the box without extra hardware. By contrast, eufy's SoloCam E30 page says the camera has no built-in storage and takes a microSD card of up to 128 GB, sold separately, or works with a eufy HomeBase. We suggest checking onboard memory before buying, because the E30 needs that card or a HomeBase before it can keep recordings. In our view, the S220, E42, and S340 provide a complete out-of-the-box solution, whereas anyone selecting the E30 must factor in the additional purchase of a microSD card.
Fixed view or pan and tilt
eufy's SoloCam E30 page lists 2K resolution with 360° pan and 70° tilt, a 10,000mAh battery and a removable solar panel in the box. eufy's SoloCam E42 page lists 4K recording, 355° pan and 55° tilt, 16 GB of built-in storage and a 6,400mAh battery with an included solar panel. eufy's SoloCam S220 page lists 2K resolution, a 135° field of view, 8 GB of built-in storage and a 0.9W integrated solar panel. We suggest a pan-and-tilt camera for an open backyard, driveway, or side lawn where visitors or vehicles move across a wide viewing angle. In our view, a fixed lens like the S220 works best when positioned directly over a porch, gate, or doorway where anyone approaching walks straight toward the lens.
E42 or S340
In this snapshot the SoloCam S340 costs $20.02 more than the SoloCam E42. eufy's SoloCam S340 page lists a 3K wide-angle lens plus a 2K telephoto lens, 8 GB of built-in storage and an adjustable 2.2W solar panel. eufy's SoloCam S340 page says 2 hours of direct sunlight a day is enough to stay powered and that human and vehicle detection run on the local AI. eufy's SoloCam E42 page lists infrared night vision plus color night vision with a 250-lumen spotlight. We suggest picking the S340 only if your property features a deep approach, such as a long driveway, where capturing distant facial features or vehicle plates is necessary. In our view, the E42 is the more practical choice for standard suburban yards because it records in 4K, pans and tilts, and adds a color spotlight for night. The E42's Amazon title mentions facial recognition. eufy's SoloCam E42 page says that with HomeBase 3 it adds face recognition, pet detection, cross-camera tracking and storage expandable to 16TB with a hard drive. In other words, face recognition depends on adding a HomeBase 3. In addition, eufy's website does not state the battery capacity for the S340.
How much sun the panels need
eufy's SoloCam S220 page says 3 hours of sunlight a day keeps it running, and lists an IP67 rating and no monthly fee. eufy's SoloCam S340 page says 2 hours of direct sunlight a day is enough to stay powered and that human and vehicle detection run on the local AI. We suggest checking the sun exposure of your mounting spot throughout the day before drilling holes. In our view, placing a solar camera under a deep porch roof or against a north-facing wall will likely leave the panel short of the required daily sunshine.
Another brand we checked
We also checked one rival option from another brand. Reolink lists the Argus 4 Pro with a 180° horizontal view, microSD storage up to 512GB with no monthly fees for local storage, a 6W solar panel and a 2-year limited warranty. We excluded it from our primary comparison because it does not have an active eligible offer in our current feed.
