How to choose between a band and clip-on earbuds
All four leave your ear canals open and include call microphones, so the useful choice is first how they sit and charge, then how much a better clip-on is worth to you.
Decide between band and clip-on first, then compare battery, water rating and call microphones before opening an offer; a lower price does not fix a style that fights your helmet or headrest.
Band or clip-on: how they sit and how you carry them
Shokz says the OpenRun Pro has been discontinued, points shoppers to the OpenRun Pro 2, and lists the original in Standard and Mini sizes. The band wraps behind your head, so there is nothing to drop and no case to carry, but it can rub a high collar or hood and press on a headrest. Shokz rates the OpenRun Pro IP55 and lists two dual noise-canceling microphones. Clip-on earbuds sit separately on each ear and return to a charging case, which leaves the back of your head free for helmets and hoods, but each earbud is a small part you can misplace.
Battery, charging and water resistance
Shokz rates the OpenRun Pro at 10 hours at standard volume and 4 hours at maximum volume, and says a 10-minute Quick Charge gives up to 1.5 hours. Shokz lists up to 10 hours per charge and up to 40 hours with the case for the OpenDots 2, with Qi wireless charging. Shokz rates the OpenDots 2 earbuds IP57 and the case IP54. Baseus lists about 8 hours of earbud playback at 50% volume and about 40 hours with the case for the Inspire XC1. Baseus rates the Inspire XC1 earbuds IP66 and says the case has only standard protection. Baseus lists 38 hours of playtime for the Bass BC1 without separating earbud and case battery. Baseus lists an IP55 rating, 12mm dynamic drivers, 4 microphones and multipoint connection for the Bass BC1. These are manufacturer figures under different conditions, and the ratings are not one scale: IP66 is the higher dust and water-jet rating, while IP57 covers brief immersion.
How much to spend on a clip-on
The Inspire XC1 costs $90.00 more than the Bass BC1 in this snapshot, and the OpenDots 2 a further $69.97. Baseus lists SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs, with LDAC on Android only, plus 4 microphones, multipoint and Bluetooth V6.1 for the Inspire XC1. Shokz lists three microphones on the OpenDots 2, one bone-conduction and two air-conduction, plus multipoint and Bluetooth 6.1. For podcasts and walks, the BC1 covers the basics. Choose the XC1 for an IP66 earbud rating and LDAC on Android, and the OpenDots 2 for frequent outdoor calls, a rated case and wireless case charging.
Another clip-on we checked
We also checked another clip-on. Soundcore lists 8 hours of earbud playback and 32 hours with the case, an IP55 rating and 6.0 grams per earbud for the AeroClip. It has no current offer in our feed.
FAQ
Which selected offers are current?
2 current offers are confirmed for the selected products: $19.99–$179.96. Current codes: SHOKZE320.
Is the OpenRun Pro still worth buying now that Shokz has discontinued it?
It still works as a one-piece bone-conduction band and is discounted in this snapshot, but Shokz has moved to the OpenRun Pro 2. Compare the newer model's price first and check the listing's Standard or Mini size before ordering.
Is a $20 clip-on enough?
For casual listening, yes: Baseus lists 38 hours of playtime, IP55, 4 microphones and multipoint for the Bass BC1. Spend more for a higher earbud rating, LDAC or a bone-conduction call mic.
Do I need the promo code for the OpenDots 2 price?
Yes. The OpenDots 2 feed price uses its promo code; the other three offers are automatic discounts.
